Beekman is a large town in Dutchess County, New York. , Beekman’s population was estimated at 14,500. The town covers approximately thirty square miles and is located around seventy-five miles north of Manhattan. Beekman was established as a township in 1788. The town's early growth is attributed to its mining and agricultural industries. Nowadays, the mining has ceased and there are only a few farms remaining. Several hamlets make up the town. They are known as Beekman, Clove Valley, Green Haven, Poughquag (pronounced Po-Kwayg) and Sylvan Lake.
