Cameron is a large and rural town in Steuben County, New York. The closest metropolitan area is the small City of Hornell, around twenty miles west. Cameron is forty-seven square miles in size but has only an estimated 940 residents (). The town was formed in 1822 and named after Dugald Cameron, an early settler. The town encompasses the hamlets of Cameron, Cameron Mills, North Cameron, South Cameron, and West Cameron.

The hamlet of South Cameron, found in the southernmost part of town, is only accessible by small local roads like Jackson Hill Road.
