Carmel is a large town in Putnam County, New York., its population was estimated at 33,100. Carmel covers a total area of approximately forty-one square miles. The area was settled around 1740. In 1795 the town was formed. A large number of hamlets make up the town. They are: Boyds Corners, Carmel (the seat of Putnam County), Baldwin Place, Carmel Hills, Field Corners, Hopkins Corners, Houseman Corners, Kent, Kent Cliffs, Ludington, Mahopac, Mahopac Falls, Thompkins Corners, Secor Corners, Seven Hills, Stillwater, and Tilly Foster.
