Earlville is a village located in the Central New York region of New York State. The village is split between two towns and two counties. The southern portion of the village is in the town of Sherburne in Chenango County. The northern part of the village is in the town of Hamilton in Madison County., the village population was estimated at 850. Earlville covers approximately one square mile. The village was first settled circa 1792 and was originally named “Forks”. In 1835, the name was changed to Earlville in honor of Jonas Earl, one of the Chenango Canal commissioners who oversaw the project.
