Eaton is a town in Madison County, New York. It is located approximately thirty miles southeast of Syracuse and approximately thirty miles southwest of Utica. The area is known as the Central New York region. Within the town is the Village of Morrisville. The village is the main population area of the town and the location of most town offices. Eaton also encompasses the hamlets and locations of Davis Corners, Eagleville, Eaton, Eaton Station, Gills Corners, Morrisville Station, Pecksport, Pierceville, Pine Woods, Pratts, Pratts Hollow, West Eaton, White Corners, and Williams Corners. Supposedly, the geographic center of New York State is at Pratts Hollow., the total population was estimated at 4,200.

US Route 20 (US-20) is the town’s main road. It runs east and west through Eaton and the northern part of Morrisville. Another busy road is New York State Route 26 (NYS-26). It enters the town in the southwestern corner and runs northwest until it runs into Route 20 in the center of town. Route 26 runs through the hamlets of West Eaton, Pierceville, and Eaton. Traffic stops on town roads will be conducted by troopers of the New York State Police or deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
There are technically two courts in Eaton. One is dedicated to the town and the other is dedicated to the village of Morrisville. They are both located in the same building and share the court staff. Any ticket issued in Morrisville will be made answerable to the Morrisville Justice Court. Tickets issued outside the village but still in the town of Eaton are made answerable to the Eaton Justice Court (Eaton Town Court).
