Edmeston, New York
Edmeston is a town in Otsego County, New York. It is located approximately thirty miles south of the City of Utica., the town population was estimated at 1,900. Edmeston has a total area of forty-four square miles. It was established in 1768 by the Treaty of Fort Stanwix, an agreement between the British and the Iroqouis Native American tribe. The town was named after two brothers, Robert and William Edmeston, who purchased 10,000 acres of nearby land. In 1808 the town was officially formed. Dairy products made up the town’s early economic industry. There are several hamlets in Edmeston. They are Edmeston, Manchester Crossing, North Edmeston, South Edmeston, and West Edmeston. The latter is partially within the neighboring town of Brookfield.

These roads are New York State Route 80 (NYS-80), County Route 20 (CR-20), and County Route 18 (CR-18). NYS-80 enters from the south town line and turns east as it reaches the principal hamlet of Edmeston. CR-20 begins in South Edmeston, heads east to Edmeston, then turns north. After heading north, it traverses the entirety of town before terminating as it meets CR-18. CR-18 is a north-south bound road that rides along the town’s western boundary. It gives motorists access to West and South Edmeston.
