Franklin is the name of a county in upstate New York. It is part of the North Country region. Franklin County is bordered by Canada to the north, St. Lawrence County to the west, Hamilton County and Essex County to the south, and Clinton County to the east. It is the sixth largest county by size in New York State, making up a total area of 1,700 square miles. A large chunk of the county is uninhabited forestland of the Adirondack Park. The county was established in 1808 and named after Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father of the United States., the county was home to approximately 46,748 residents.

NYS-3 serves the southern tip of Franklin County. It runs east and west. Heading east on NYS-3 provides motorists with access to I-87 in Essex County.
