Freetown is a small and rural town in Cortland County, New York. It is considered part of the Central New York region. Freetown is roughly 35 miles north of Binghamton and roughly 45 miles south of Syracuse., the town population was estimated at 750. Freetown was first settled around 1800 and was established as a township in 1818. Two years later the town’s size increased significantly, encompassing part of the Town of Virgil.
