Galen, New York
Galen is a town in Wayne County, New York. It is located approximately fifty miles west of Syracuse and approximately fifty miles east of Rochester., the population of Galen was estimated at 4,150. Inside the town is a village named Clyde. It is the location of most businesses, town offices, and is the town’s main population area. The Erie Canal runs east-west through the village. The opening of the canal in the early 19th century was the driving factor in the town’s early development. Galen also had unique glassmaking factories and a manufacturer that helped develop the typewriter.
