Germantown is the name of a town in Columbia County, New York. It sits on the eastern side of the Hudson River around forty miles south of Albany. The town covers fourteen square miles.

It was originally named “East Camp” and consisted of four villages. The area was later renamed to “Germantown” and in 1788, was formally established as a town. Germantown consists of several hamlets. They are Cheviot, Germantown, North Germantown, and Viewmont.
