Greene is the name of a town in Chenango County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles north of Binghamton, in an area known as the Southern Tier region. Within the town, is the Village of Greene, which includes Greene Historic District, a national historic district with over 140 contributing structures. The town also encompasses the hamlets of Fickles Corner, Genegantslet, Lower Genegantslet Corner, and Quinneville. , the estimated combined population was 5,100.

There are two main roads in the Town of Greene. State Highway 12 (NYS-12) runs between Binghamton in the south and Utica in the north. It goes north-south through Greene. State Highway 206 (NYS-206/NYS-41) runs east-west between Downsville in Delaware County in the east and Whitney Point in the west. It crosses east-west through Greene. Within the village it is known as Genesee Street. The NYS-206 and NYS-12 intersect in the center of Greene village.
In Greene, police patrols can be conducted by New York State Police and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. The village has its own police department that does most of the traffic patrol in the village. Village tickets are made answerable to the Greene Village Court. The town and village are located right next to each other on Genesee Street, in the downtown area of the village.
