Hamlin is a town in Monroe County, New York. It is located around twenty-five miles northwest of the City of Rochester and sits on Lake Ontario., its population was estimated at 9,000. Hamlin covers forty-five square miles, making it the second largest town in Monroe County. The town consists of several hamlets and beachside communities. They are named Benedict Beach, Hamlin, Kendall Mills, Morton, North Hamlin, Onteo Beach, Sandy Harbor Beach, Shore Acres, Troutburg, and Walker.
The town is named after Hannibal Hamlin, the Vice President during Abraham Lincoln’s first term. Andrew Johnson replaced Hamlin as Vice President for Lincoln’s second term.
