Harpersfield is a town in Delaware County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains region approximately 70 miles southwest of Albany., the town population was estimated at 1,400. Harpersfield encompasses forty-two square miles. The town was formed in 1768 by John Harper, a Colonel who fought for New York State in the Revolutionary War. Harpersfield consists of two hamlets and one village. The hamlets are named Harpersfield and North Harpersfield. The village is named Stamford. The village is split between two towns. One part of the village is in the town of Stamford and the other is in the town of Harpersfield.
