Hector, New York
Hector is a town in Schuyler County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region and sits on the western shore of Seneca Lake. Hector is a large town, covering one hundred and twelve square miles. A large chunk of the town is the Finger Lakes National Forest. A portion of the lake is also counted as part of the town., the town of Hector had a population of approximately 5,250. It was established in 1802 and named after Hector Ely, the first child of the town founders. The town encompasses the Village of Burdett. It is a small village, but is the location of most town business and town government offices. The town also includes a number of hamlets. They are Bennettsburg, Cat Elbow Corner, Cayutaville, East Steamburg, Hector Post Office, Logan, Mecklenburg, Perry City, Reynoldsville, Searsburg, Smith Valley, and Valois.

Closer to the coastline runs New York State Route 414 (NYS-414). It traverses the entire town heading north and south. NYS-414 meets NYS-79 just north of Watkins Glen. Running along the northern town line is County Route 1 (CR-1). Taking CR-1 east will bring you to the neighboring village of Trumansburg.
