Irondequoit (pronounced uh-ron-duh-koyt) is a town in Monroe County, New York. It is north of the City of Rochester and sits on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. The town covers approximately seventeen square miles. Irondequoit serves a suburb of Rochester and has an estimated population of 51,000 (). The town name is derived from the Iroquois Native American language. Irondequoit roughly translates to “where the land meets the water”.
