Italy is the name of a rural town in Yates County, New York., it had an estimated population of 1,000, spread over forty-one square miles. The town was named after the country in Europe. The closest metropolitan area is the small City of Canandaigua around twenty-five miles north. The City of Rochester is roughly fifty miles northwest. The town encompassed the hamlets of Italy (formerly Italy Hollow), Italy Hill, Woodville, and Sunnyside.
