Traffic Tickets in the Town of Leicester
Leicester is one of the many towns that are speed traps for out-of-town motorists. For people traveling to Buffalo from areas downstate, Google and Waze will often take you off interstate 390 and direct you to use the US-20A. This is a more direct route. However, the downside is the speed traps. Motorists going towards the Buffalo and Niagara area are at the end of their trip and used to driving at the high speeds of the interstate for many hours. This leads many motorists to speed through the US-20A and other local roads. The speed limit off the interstate never exceeds 55 mph and is often reduced as low as 30 mph in more developed areas. Leicester is one such town. The roads that see a lot of traffic stops are Perry Road (CR-64), Mount Morris Road (NYS-36), Leicester Road (US-20A), and Curleyville Road (NYS-39).
Another area that sees many traffic stops is in and around Letchworth State Park, which is in the southern part of the town. Roads in the park are patrolled by New York State Park Police. They are authorized to conduct traffic stops and issue citations. In the rest of the town, traffic tickets can be issued by deputies of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and troopers of the New York State Police.
The Leicester Town Court (Leicester Justice Court) has jurisdiction over town and village traffic violations. The court is located in the Leicester Town Hall building on Main Street in Leicester Village. If you had the unfortunate luck of being stopped in Leicester, all is not lost. A traffic ticket attorney can likely get your ticket dismissed or reduced.
