Lincklaen (pronounced LINK-lin) is a small and rural town in Chenango County, New York. It is part of the Central New York region and is around forty miles south of Syracuse., the Lincklaen population was approximately 389. County Route 12 (CR-12) and County Route 13 (CR-13) are the main roads in town. CR-12 heads north and south along the town’s western boundary. It passes through the Hamlet of Lincklaen along the way. CR-13 does the same near the town’s eastern boundary, running north and south. It passes through the hamlets of Mariposa and Rhode Island. Both connect to each other by a series of local roads that head east and west across town. The remaining central part of Lincklaen is mostly undeveloped forestland and is only accessible by these small roads.

The town does not have a police department to conduct traffic patrols. Tickets in Lincklaen are instead issued by the New York State Police or the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department. Most of the traffic violations in Lincklaen originate on CR-12 and CR-13. The speed limit in Lincklaen does not exceed 55 miles per hour. Besides speeding, other common charges include driving with a suspended license, driving with a broken headlight or taillight, and texting while driving.

The Lincklaen Town Court (Town of Lincklaen Justice Court) is responsible for adjudicating traffic tickets. All charges alleging that a traffic violation was committed within the town jurisdiction will be handled by this court. The court is located in the Lincklaen Town Hall building. The Lincklaen Justice Court is one of the smallest courts in New York State, by volume of cases.

Prior to January of 2022, the Town Justice was Justin Rice. In unknown circumstances, as of February of 2022, they were no longer the judge. The town board appointed Robert Brenzel as interim judge. Hon. Brenzel is also the town justice in the neighboring town of Pitcher.
