Livingston is a town in Columbia County, New York. It is on the eastern side of the Hudson River, around forty miles southeast of Albany and approximately twenty miles west of the Massachusetts state line. Livingston is considered part of the Hudson Valley region. The town encompasses thirty-nine square miles., the town population was approximately 3,685. Livingston was settled as early as 1664, and formally settled in 1788 as a town. Several hamlets are found in Livingston. They are known as Blue Stores, Burden, Glencoe Mills, Linlithgo, Linlithgo Mills, and the principal hamlet, Livingston. Town offices and the town court are located in the principal hamlet.

NYS-82 enters town from the north town line and runs diagonally heading southeast. It passes through the Hamlet of Glenco Mills before leaving through the east town line. The west portion of town is served by New York State Route 9G and several other county routes. NYS-9G (Rhinebeck-Hudson Road) runs parallel to the Hudson River, passing through many towns. US-9 and NYS-9G are connected by the east-west bound County Route 10. CR-10 passes through several hamlets on the way, namely, Linlithgo, Burden and Livingston.
