Traffic Tickets in the Town of Livonia
The Town of Livonia and the Village of Livonia have a combined justice court. The court handles the town’s preliminary criminal, small claims, and traffic matters. This includes citations issued by the New York State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. The charges are typically issued on the busier roads in town, such as US-Route 20A (Big Tree Road / Main Street/ Richmond Mill Road) and New York State Route 15 (South Livonia Road). US-20A cuts through the town heading east and west while NYS-15 runs south from the village, where both roads intersect. In the eastern section of town, New York State Route 15A enters the town from the north and heads south until it meets US-20. Before US-20 reaches the eastern town line, it heads south towards the Hamlet of Hemlock. It then turns east and leaves town through the south-east corner.
On the outskirts of town, the speed limit on the US-20 is 55 mph. As it enters the village, the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. The reduced speed often ensnares motorists from outside of the area that are unfamiliar with the road. Most often it is a motorist that is not paying attention to the speed sign and unintentionally speeding.
