The town’s main roads are New York State Route 414 (NYS-414), County Route 137 (Lodi Center Road), and County Route 146 (Townsendville Road). NYS-414 serves the western part of town. It enters from the north and passes through the Village of Lodi. From the village it turns south-west and rides along the coast of the lake until it leaves town. Along the way, it passes by the Hamlet of Caywood and the Finger Lakes National Forest. CR-137 runs north- south through the center of town, providing access to Lodi Center. CR-146 does the same, running north and south, but along the eastern town line. It stretches from end to end and provides access to the Hamlet of Townsendville. The roads in Lodi are mostly laid flat and straight. They stretch for long distances as well, which often results in motorists getting ticketed for speeding. For the most part, the speed limit is 55 mph. As the town roads enter the village, the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Traffic stops are also frequently conducted at these locations.
There is no local police department in the town or village. Road patrol is provided by the New York State Police and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. The Lodi Town Court (Lodi Justice Court) has jurisdiction over all the roads in Lodi. This includes the village roads. Any ticket issued in town is answerable to the town court. Most traffic citations are for speeding, but the court sees a variety of moving violation charges.
