Milford is a town in Otsego County, New York. Like many towns in this county, there is a village within the town that has the same name., the estimated town population was 2,700 and the estimated village population was 415. Milford was first settled in 1770. In 1796, it was established as a township under the name “Suffrage.” Four years later, in 1800, it was changed to Milford. Historians are not sure of the name’s significance. The town makes up forty-seven square miles and encompasses several hamlets in addition to the village. The hamlets are Cliffside, Colliersville, Cooperstown Junction, Milford Center, and Portlandville.
