Morris is the name of a town and village in Otsego County, New York. The village is within the town. The town is named after General Jacob Morris. He received a patent of 30,000 acres of land to indemnify him for the loss of property destroyed by the British during the War of Independence. There are some small cities in the area, such as Oneonta and Norwich. Larger cities such as Binghamton and Albany are at least sixty miles away., the population of the town and village combined was estimated at 1,800. The town encompasses two hamlets as well; they are Elm Grove and Maple Grove.
