New Berlin is the name of a town and village in Chenango County, New York. The village is located inside the town., the town’s population was estimated at 2,500 and the village population was estimated at 900. The town encompasses approximately forty-seven square miles. It is sixty-five miles south-west of the city of Syracuse.

New Berlin was settled around 1790 and formed as a town in 1807. It was named after Berlin, Germany, where most of the town’s settlers have migrated from. In 1821, the town was renamed to “Lancaster”. A year later the name was reverted back to “New Berlin”. In addition to the village, there are several hamlets in town. They are Amblerville, Chenango Lake, Davis Crossing, Five Corners, Holmesville, Sages Crossing, and South New Berlin.

NYS-23 runs east-west in the southern part of town. Route 23 gives motorists access to Amblerville and the neighboring town of Norwich to the west. Both roads intersect in South New Berlin. County Route 28 serves the mid-section of town, heading north and south.
