Newark Valley is a town in Tioga County, New York., the town population was estimated at 4,000. Inside the town is a village also named Newark Valley. The village is the main population area and where the government offices are located. Tioga County is part of the Southern Tier region and Newark Valley is roughly fifteen miles from the Pennsylvania state line. The closest city is Binghamton in neighboring Broome County.
The town was first settled around 1791. In 1824, the town was named Newark. To avoid confusion with the Village of Newark in Wayne County, the town changed its name to Newark Valley. In addition to the village, the town consists of several hamlets. They are East Newark, Jenksville, Kethchumville, West Newark, and New Connecticut.
