Oneonta (pronounced: OH-nee-ON-tuh) is a town in Otsego County, New York. It is located approximately sixty miles northeast of Binghamton and approximately eighty miles southwest of Albany. The town surrounds the City of Oneonta. The town is larger, but the city has a higher population. The town and city are governed independently., there were an estimated 5,000 town residents. SUNY Oneonta is located in the northern part of the town and has around 6,000 students.
