Oswego is the name of a city in Oswego County, New York. It is located on the southeast shore of Lake Ontario approximately forty miles northwest of Syracuse. The city is the largest metropolitan area in Oswego County and is the location of all county government buildings. There is also a Town of Oswego, which is adjacent on the western side of the city. The town is larger than the city but is more rural and has a smaller population. SUNY Oswego is located partially in the town and partially in the city. The city and town are governed separately., the city population was estimated at 16,700. This does not include students of SUNY Oswego.
