Paris, New York

Paris is the name of a town in Oneida County, New York. It is part of the Central New York region., its population was estimated at 4,300. The town is ten miles south of Utica and covers approximately thirty-one and a half square miles. Paris was formed in 1792. The town was not named after the famous capital city in France, but instead after an early benefactor, Colonel Isaac Paris. The town is home to one village and several hamlets. The village is Clayville. The hamlets are Cassville, Greens Crossings, Paris Station, Richfield Junction and Sauquoit.

Traffic Tickets in Paris

The Paris Town Court (also known as the Paris Justice Court) has jurisdiction over the town roads. The court is located in the Hamlet of Sauquoit. The court handles various town legal issues and all town traffic tickets. Paris does not have a town or village police department. County sheriffs and state police serve as law enforcement. They also issue citations, where appropriate.

Most of the traffic stops occur along the main roads of town, one of which is New York State Route 8 (NYS-8). It is the town’s arterial north and south bound road. NYS-8 passes several hamlets and the village of Clayville. Speeding is the most common charge in Paris. The speed limit on NYS-8 does not decrease from 55 miles per hour even as you pass through the village area. Despite this high speed, motorists tend to find themselves cited for traveling much faster. Some other large roads that run through Paris are County Route 7 (CR-7), County Route 9 (CR-9), County Route 2 (CR-2), and New York State Route 12 (NYS-12).
