Penn Yan is a village in Yates County, New York. The village name is an abbreviation of “Pennsylvania Yankee.” Most early settlers were from either Pennsylvania or New York, thus giving rise to the village name. Penn Yan is considered part of the Finger Lakes region. It is located at the northern tip of Keuka Lake. The Village of Penn Yan is divided between three towns. Most of the village is within Milo, with smaller sections in the towns of Benton and Jerusalem., the village had an estimated 5,000 residents. Penn Yan is the most “urban” area of Yates County and is the location of most county government buildings.
