Plainfield is a rural town in Otsego County, New York. It is located approximately twenty-five miles south of the City of Utica. For the most part, it is considered part of the Mohawk Valley region., its population was estimated at 900. Plainfield was established in 1793 and established as a town officially in 1799. It used to have several dairy farms. The town makes up twenty-nine and a half square miles. It consists of several hamlets. They are named Huntley Corners, Lloydsville, Plainfield Center, Unadilla Forks, and Leonardsville. The latter is mostly situated in the neighboring Town of Brookfield, with a small portion being in Plainfield.

County Route 21 runs east and west through the center of town. Its western terminus is in Lloydsville. As it reaches the eastern hamlet of Plainfield, it runs north and terminates as it meets New York State Route 51, which trails along the town’s north and eastern town line.
