Rathbone is a remote town in the Southern Tier region of New York State. It is located in southern Steuben County, less than ten miles north of the Pennsylvania State line. The closest metropolitan area is the City of Corning, around fifteen miles east. The City of Binghamton is roughly ninety miles east., Rathbone had an estimated population of 1,150. The town makes up thirty-six square miles and includes the hamlets of Cameron Mills, Derby Switch, and Rathbone. It was established in 1856 and named after a United States Army General, Ramson Rathbone.
