Richmond is a town in Ontario County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region and is approximately forty miles south of Rochester. Richmond encompasses most of Honeoye Lake, one of the “minor” Finger Lakes. The area was first settled around 1790 and established as a township in 1796 under the name “Pittstown.” Several of the new settlers were former soldiers of the Revolutionary War, who were attracted to the fertile land. Later, the town was renamed to “Honeoye” and then “Richmond” in 1815. Richmond encompasses a number of hamlets. They are Allens Hill, Curtis Corner, Denison Corner, Frost Hollow, Honeoye, Honeoye Park, Richmond Center and Willow Beach. There is also a wildlife conservation named the Honeoye Creek Wildlife Management Area. The main hamlet is Honeoye. It rests at the northern top of Honeoye Lake. Most of the businesses there cater to the recreational activities available at the lake., the town population was estimated at 3,300. In the summer months, the population swells substantially.
Traffic Tickets in Richmond
The town’s main road is US Route 20A (US-20A), which cuts across town heading east and west. It passes through the hamlets of Richmond and Honeoye. US-20A intersects the town’s main north and south bound road in Richmond. That road is County Route 37 (CR-37). Heading north on CR-37 from Richmond will bring you to Richmond Center, where CR-37 intersects another County Route (County Route 15). CR-15 heads east and west across the north part of town and terminates as it meets County Route 40 (CR-40) just east of Richmond Center. CR-40 heads north and south.
The Town of Richmond Justice Court (Richmond Town Court) has jurisdiction over all of the town’s roads. Any ticket issued in Richmond will be written by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office or New York State Police. The court most often deals with speeding tickets issued on US-20 and CR-37.
