Rush is the name of a town in Monroe County, New York. It is a suburb of the City of Rochester., the population of Rush was estimated at 3,500. The town encompasses around thirty square miles. Rush was established in 1818. Historians are not sure why the town was given its name. Some believe it was named after Dr. Benjamin Rush, a Founding Father of the United States, and some believe it was named after the plant “rush” growing along a nearby creek. The town consists of several hamlets. They are named Five Points, Golah, Industry, Manns Corner, Meadow Wood, North Rush, Rush and West Rush.
