Scipio (pronounced SIP-e-o) is a town in Cayuga County, New York. It is located approximately forty miles southwest of Syracuse. The town’s eastern border is formed by Owasco Lake, one of the eleven Finger Lakes. The area was first settled in the 18th century and the town maintains several historic structures from that time.
Scipio makes up about forty square miles, most of which is farmland. The town contains numerous hamlets. They are Ashland, Casowasco, Edgewater, Elmwood, Merrifield, Owasco Lake Station, Scipio Center, Scipioville, and Sherwood., the town had an estimated population of 1,500.

Near the eastern town line and shore of Owasco Lake runs New York state Route 38 (NYS-38). This road runs north and south leading motorists to Casowasco, Edgewater, and Elmwood.
