Shawangunk, New York
Shawangunk (locally pronounced SHON-gum) is a large town in Ulster County, New York. It is located at the southeast foothills of the Catskill Mountains, approximately seventy miles north of Manhattan. The town is just northwest of the City of Newburgh. It is spread over fifty-six square miles and has an estimated population of 14,400 (). Shawangunk is considered part of the Hudson Valley region. The area was settled around 1680 and includes several historic sites. Shawangunk encompasses the hamlets of Awosting, Bruynswick, Crawford, Dwaarkill, Red Mills, Walker Valley, and Wallkill. There are two correctional facilities in the town, the Shawangunk Correctional Facility and the Wallkill Correctional Facility.

You can reach those hamlets from County Route 109 (Indian Springs Road) or New York State Route 52 – both of which intersect CR-7/398.
