Smyrna is a rural town in Chenango County, New York. It is part of the Central New York region and is located around forty miles south of Utica. In the town is a village also named Smyrna. It is the town’s main population area. The town covers a total area of forty-two square miles. It was settled first in 1792, and then later formed as a township in 1808 under the name “Stafford”. A month later the name was changed to Smyrna. , the town was home to approximately 1,300 residents.

CR-20 is another large road that runs north and south near the southeast corner of town. The remaining town area is made up of one lane roads leading back to NY-80.
