Taylor is a town in Cortland County, New York. It is part of the Central New York region and roughly forty miles south of Syracuse., approximately 500 people lived in the town. The first settlers arrived in Taylor around 1793. The area was established as a township in 1849 and named after President Zachary Taylor. The town encompasses thirty square miles. Four hamlets make up the town. They are known as Taylor (formerly known as Taylorville), Taylor Center, Taylor Valley and Union Valley (formerly known as Dorantown).
