Throop (pronounced “troop”) is a small town in Cayuga County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region. The town is situated just north of the small City of Auburn and approximately thirty miles west of Syracuse. Throop's main hamlet is Cold Spring (not to be confused with the Village of Cold Spring in Putnam County or the Town of Coldspring in Cattaraugus County). The town also encompasses the hamlets of Sawyers Corner, Throop and Throopsville., Throop’s population was roughly 1,700.

Heading north on NYS-38 brings you to the Village of Port Byron.
