Tompkins is a town in Delaware County, New York. It is considered part of the Southern Tier region. The closest large city is Binghamton, around forty-five miles to the west. The town was formed in 1806. In the area, Tompkins is one of the largest towns in Delaware County, but it has the smallest population., the population of Tompkins was estimated at 1,200. Six hamlets make up the town. They are Apex, Cleaver, Islamberg, Kelsey, Rock Rift and Trout Creek.
