Trenton is the name of a town in Oneida County, New York. It is located approximately ten miles north of the city of Utica and is considered part of the Central New York region., the town’s population was estimated at 4,300.
The town was formed in 1797. The Battle of Trenton was a pivotal Revolutionary War battle that took place in Trenton, New Jersey. At the time of the town’s formation, a number of its residents had participated in this battle, thus giving rise to the town name.
Trenton is made up of one village and several hamlets. The village is named “Holland Patent”. The Holland Land Company was a land purchasing company. A “patent” in real estate means the transfer of ownership of land from the government. Holland Patent was named after the grant of village land. The hamlets are Barneveld (formerly a village), Hinckley, Prospect, and Steuben Valley.
