Venice, New York
Venice is a town in Cayuga County, New York. It is in the Finger Lakes region and is located between Owasco Lake to the east and Cayuga Lake to the west., the population was approximately 1,100. The town was named after the city of Venice, in Italy. They have nowhere near the extensive canal scheme as the famous city, but do have various bodies of water most of which flow east, emptying into Owasco Lake. Its waters are Big Salmon Creek, Little Salmon Creek, their tributaries, and numerous other small streams. The town’s main industry is agriculture, hosting various crop and dairy farms. There are eight hamlets within the town. They are Ashland, Cascade East Venice, Ledyard, Owasco Hill, Poplar Ridge, Stewarts Corners, and Venice Center.

The main east-west route in Venice is County Route 43B (Poplar Ridge Road/Long Hill Road). Most traffic stops occur on these main roads. The town does not have its own police department. Traffic patrol can be conducted by sheriff deputies or state police. Common traffic violations cited in Venice include speeding, texting while driving, and driving with a suspended license.
