Vienna is a town in Oneida County, New York. It is located approximately thirty miles northeast of Syracuse and is considered part of the Central New York region. Oneida Lake forms the southern and western town line. Vienna is named after the famous city in Austria.
Within Vienna, is the village of Sylvan Beach. It rests on the eastern end of Lake Oneida. The town also encompasses the hamlets of Dibbletown, Edgewater Beach, Elpis, Fish Creek Landing, Jewell, Long Crossing, Maple Flats, McConnellsville North Bay, Pine, Thompson Corners, and Vienna., the total town population was estimated at 5,300.

New York State Route 49 (NYS-49) is the town’s arterial roadway. It runs east and west through town, parallel to Lake Oneida. Along the way it passes through Jewell, North Bay, and Edgewater Beach. Running north-south through Dibbletown, McConnellsville, and the Hamlet of Vienna is New York State Route 13 (NYS-13). It meets the NYS-49 just south of the Hamlet of Vienna. It follows the eastern coastline of Lake Oneida and is the arterial road of Sylvan Beach.
There are two courts in Vienna. One is for the town and the other is for the village of Sylvan Beach. The Vienna Town Court has jurisdiction over the roads outside the village. The Sylvan Beach Village Court is the opposite, only having jurisdiction inside the village, but not the town. Tickets issued elsewhere in town are handled by the town court. Due to the absence of a local town or village police force, these traffic tickets are issued by the New York State Police and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
