Wappinger is a large town in Dutchess County, New York. The name is Native-American in origin and is understood to mean “easterner”. The town is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River approximately 75 miles north of New York City. The town also encompasses three quarters of the village of Wappinger Falls. The other quarter is within the Town of Poughkeepsie. There are several hamlets in Wappinger. They are Chelsea, Diddell, Hughsonville, Middlebush, Myers Corners, New Hackensack, and Swartwoutville., the total population was around twenty-eight thousand.
