Wayne is a rural town in Steuben County, New York. It sits on the eastern shore of Lake Keuka, one of the “Finger Lakes“., it had an estimated population of 1,000. The town’s hamlets are Grove Springs, Keuka, North Urbana, Sylvan Beach, and Wayne. The town was established in 1796 with the name “Frederickstown”. In 1808 its name was changed to honor Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War hero. His nickname was “Mad Anthony”, and he was known for his fiery personality and military exploits.

CR-87 runs diagonally through the center of town heading north-east and south-west. It provides access to Sylvan Beach. County Route 114 (Birdseye-Waneta) runs east and west through the southern part of Wayne. It meets CR-87 outside North Urbana.
The New York State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office issue the town’s traffic tickets. The tickets they write are made answerable to the Wayne Town Court (Town of Wayne Justice Court).
