Western, New York
Western is the name of a town in Oneida County, New York. It is located at the southwestern foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, just north of the City of Rome. The boundaries of the Town of Western were established in 1797 from the original Town of Steuben, which encompassed a much larger area. The name Western came from the fact that the new town was taken from the western portion of Steuben., Western had an estimated population of 1,900. The town makes up about fifty-five square miles and includes the hamlets of Beartown, Carmichael Hill, Big Brook, Dunbar, Frenchville, Hillside, North Western and Westernville. The town hall and town court are located in Westernville.
