Wheeler, New York
Wheeler is a large rural town in Steuben County, New York. It is part of the southern Finger Lakes region (also considered part of the Southern Tie region). The town is just east of the Town of Avoca and approximately fifty miles northwest of the City of Elmira. , the town population was estimated at 1,100. Wheeler covers an area of forty-six square miles. The town consists of several hamlets. They are known as Bean Station, Dinehart, Marshalls, Mitchellsville, Renchans, Stickneys, and Wheeler.
The town was established in 1820 and named after Captain Silas Wheeler. He served in the Revolutionary War. Wheeler was captured twice by the British. The first time he was released in a prisoner exchange. The second time he escaped to France and then returned to the United States. He settled with his family in the Wheeler area in the early part of the 19th century.

Only one other large road runs through Wheeler, which is County Route 13 (Mitchellsville Road). From NYS-53 it runs southeast until it leaves town.
