Town of Geddes, New York
Geddes is a town in Onondaga County, New York. It is considered a suburb of the neighboring city of Syracuse., the population was estimated at 16,900. Onondaga Lake forms most of the eastern border of Geddes. The town includes the hamlets of Lakeland and Westvale. Geddes also includes the village of Solvay, which is governed independently from the town.

The Town of Geddes Justice Court (Geddes Town Court) has jurisdiction over traffic related charges alleged to have been committed within the town’s boundaries. The only exception is for the village of Solvay. The village has its own justice court that adjudicates all village matters. The Geddes Town Court and the Solvay Village Court are both located in Solvay, a few blocks from each other.
The Geddes Town Court is busier than most other justice courts due to the interstate highways traversing Geddes. Most traffic violations adjudicated in the court are speeding infractions. They are prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys of the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.
Interstate 90 (I-90), otherwise known as the New York State Thruway, crosses the entire New York State between Buffalo and Albany. A small part of I-90 passes through Geddes. The speed limit here is 65 mph. The Thruway is patrolled mostly by Troop “T” of the New York State Police.
Interstate 690 (I-690) is a spur highway off the I-90. It cuts travel time for motorists traveling between areas west of Syracuse and areas south of Syracuse. I-690 cuts directly through Geddes running parallel to Onondaga Lake. The speed limit is 65 mph. This highway is generally patrolled by Troop “D” of the New York State Police. Another highway in Geddes is New York State Route 695 (NYS-695). This is a spur highway off I-690 that supports travel between Geddes and Route 5. Here, too, the speed limit is 65 mph.
