Solvay is a village in Onondaga County, New York. It is within the town of Geddes. The village is located west of Syracuse and serves as its suburb. Solvay makes up almost two square miles and lies on the western shore of Onondaga Lake. The village was founded in 1794 by James Geddes. Its original name was “Geddesburgh”. The village was later renamed in 1884 after Ernest Solvay, who built a processing plant to produce soda ash., the village had a population of around 6,500.
