Traffic Tickets in Livingston County
The justice courts in Livingston County handle a lot of traffic tickets. Most traffic related charges originate on Interstate 390. The I-390 is a highway that runs mostly north-south and connects two east-west highways, the I-90 (Thruway) in the north and the I-86 (Southern Tier Expressway) in the south. The I-390 is patrolled by New York State Police. Many traffic stops are conducted on this highway, mostly for motorists that are clocked exceeding the 65-mph speed limit.
The justice courts with jurisdiction over the I-390 are the busiest. However, the courts just off the highway are busy as well. This is because motorists often fail to adjust their speed properly to the lower speed limits just off the highway. Such speed traps include NYS-36 in Mount Morris, US-20A in Geneseo, US-20 in Avon, and NYS-63 in Groveland. Off the highway, traffic stops can also be conducted by county sheriffs and local police where applicable.
