Mount Kisco is a town in Westchester County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles north of White Plains and approximately forty miles north of Manhattan., the estimated town population was 11,200. The town was named after the local geography, consisting of a river named Kisco and a large 623-foot hill in the northwest portion of town. The word “kisco” is derived from the local Native American language and means “a muddy place”. Mount Kisco was founded in 1850 and incorporated itself as a village in 1875. The village initially fell under the jurisdiction of two nearby towns, New Castle and Bedford. In 1978, the village finally seceded from both towns and became its own independent, coterminous town and village.
